Weathering the Storm

As you may be able to tell from previous posts (and the lack of regularity than I normally post) life is hard at present. My family and I are clearly under spiritual attack at the moment. I will not go into all the details, but let us say that many big, significant things have gone wrong and continue to do so. Pressures are increased dramatically in all spheres of life - enough to push one to breaking point and it seems that there is no escape.

However, God is still very much in the picture. There is good news punctuating the bad. Light is breaking through the darkness from time to time that lets us know that God is still in control and that He will work things for our good according to His will.

The reason I am writing this blog is not to moan or complain. It is to give hope to those who are in a similar position.

My father-in-law gave me some sound advice recently. He said that when we are under attack, God is allowing it so that we draw closer to him. The danger is, we so often revert to our default state; to whatever gives us comfort in the natural (and gives it to us reasonably quickly). Quite often these things are sinful and are weaknesses we struggle with, but when the pressure is on, can become our all-to-easy default button that we may press when things get tough.

2 Corinthians 4:8-12
"We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may also be revealed in our mortal body. So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you."

I have been mindful of his words and am trying to draw nearer to God during this season in my life. I know that although I may be hard pressed on every side - I am not crushed!

When the pressure is on - run to Jesus, not away from Him.

Ephesians 6:10-13
"Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand."

Stand firm!

Hold fast!

The storm shall pass.
