PET Scan

On Monday I travelled to Norwich Hospital for a PET-CT scan. I was not allowed to eat anything for 6 hours before the appointment and only allowed to drink water. So I woke up at 4am to eat some scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast! I did manage to get back to sleep afterwards, which was good.

Not knowing what to expect, I was quite nervous. My parents kindly took me to and from Norwich as well as putting me up for the night as I was injected with a radio active material to help my insides show up on the scan and was not allowed to be around pregnant ladies or young children. As some of you know I have a 2 year old and a pregnant wife!



The scan was fairly uneventful. Lots of sitting around and waiting as well as answering endless questions on endless forms! It was quite a chilly, rainy day. The mobile unit which had the scanner in was fairly warm and comfortable, which was good seeing as after being injected I had to sit and wait for an hour for it to circulate around my system. I was glad I had brought my iPod to listen to music!

Once in the scanning room, it was cold! The air conditioning was blowing and it felt a bit like a fridge. I discovered later that the machine gets quite hot so this probably explains the chill in the scanning room air. I lay on the bed of the scanner as it wooshed in and out of the doughnut shaped hole - all the while with my hands above my head. The tunnel of this scanner was longer than that of a normal CT scanner, which I was not expecting. And this scan the bed is raised as high as it can go to the top of the doughnut hole without your bent knees touching it.

After half and hour I was extracted from the doughnut and sent on my way. I was pleased to find the hospital cafe close by so I could get some food inside my belly!

No results were given on the day. The images will be sent to my consultant in a few days time. He will then discuss my case with a team of specialists at Adenbrookes hospital. I have my appointment with him on 1st November when I will find out the results and discuss the next steps.

Worship Setlist for the New Year

As we enter into a New Year it is an obvious and natural position to ask God what he has in store for the coming year for you personally, and for your church. When selecting a setlist of worship songs for my church, whether it is for a special New Year's eve service where we welcome the New Year in together, or if it is just the first Sunday of the New Year when the whole church is gathering together, I think it is important to ask God if there is a specific song he has in mind for the coming season for your church. This song could be along the obvious lines of 'New Year = New Season' with a sense that we are moving into something new with God, we are progressing in our relationship with Him and becoming more like Him as we grow together in Christ.
